Commons on Lot 4 will improve quality of life

Letter to the SC Sentinel, 4/10/2022

I support Our Downtown’s initiative to create a green Commons on our spacious Lot 4 in the center of downtown. This is needed in our increasingly densifying city. The sunny open space is best utilized as a community gathering place, hosting a variety of events, including our successful farmers market, there since the 1990s.

As Market Director, Nesh Dhillon, told a local news source in September 2021, “It would be silly and not a good use of space to say that the only thing that can exist here is the farmers market — what about the antique fair? What about special events? What about having a central plaza or designated place with infrastructure — the farmers market is just one part of many parts.”

Sponsoring community entertainment events, including the market, will improve our quality of life, bringing residents and visitors together in a central, green plaza under shady magnolias.
